Ritchie Valens Festival & La Bamba Movie Screening
Join me to celebrate the music and legacy of Ritchie Valens in Pacoima! I’m proud to host a family-friendly festival and movie screening of La Bamba at Ritchie Valens Park (10731 Laurel Canyon Blvd) on August 25th from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm to celebrate the official unveiling of the Ritchie Valens Memorial Highway signs. The event will features live entertainment, food trucks, and a screening of the movie, La Bamba at 7:30 pm. Confirmed performers include: Emcee Bobby Arias, The Backyard Blues Band (featuring Mario Valens) The Ritchie Valens tribute Band with His Cousin Ernie Valens and Moonlight Trio. Advancing Women’s Economic and Political Empowerment
This week, I attended the 48th Annual National Association of Commissions for Women Conference hosted by the City’s Commission on the Status of Women. The event brings people together to discuss ways to support women and girls in an ever-changing city and globalized economy. We all have an important role to play in empowering women and must continue to support women in all aspects of civic work. I am working hard to ensure that we create a climate where young women can achieve their full potential.
Protecting Mobile Home Park Residents
Mobile homes are a critical source of housing for thousands of Los Angeles residents, especially seniors and low income individuals. In fact, the Seventh Council District has the highest concentration of mobile home parks in the City. Mobile home park residents serviced by the RecycLA program have experienced dramatic increases in costs for trash collection. My office has been working proactively with the Bureau of Sanitation (LASAN), the franchise waste haulers, and residents to address this issue. This week, I introduced a motion directing the City to report back on the feasibility of exempting mobile home parks from the RecycLA program and resuming residential service of mobile home parks by LASAN.
Developing the Next Generation of Leaders
A huge congratulations to my interns for completing the CD7 Summer Internship Program. It’s been an incredible privilege working with these bright young individuals, and I’m very grateful for the time they have spent working in my office. I’m proud that many of the interns are from the District as it’s instrumental that we create a pipeline for the next generation of leaders in our communities.

For nearly thirteen years, the City’s Summer Lunch Program has been serving up free and healthy meals to thousands of kids across Los Angels. This week, I met a few new friends at Pacoima Library, read a great book to the children, and helped serve delicious hot meals.
