Here’s a quick recap of what’s happening in the Seventh Council District this week:

Summer Movie Nights

Mark your calendars: summer movie nights are back in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. Bring your family, friends, and pack a picnic for a movie night under the stars. I’m kicking off our Summer Movie Nights with a screening of Transformers on Thursday, June 21 at Brand Park in Mission Hills. Lots of fun family things to do including a selection of food trucks by Grub Fest, free inflatable games provided by San Fernando Valley Partnership, and car painting provided by Galpin Motors. There will also be free popcorn, snow cones, and popsicles. The fun starts at 6:30 PM and movie begins at 7:30 PM. For a complete list of summer outdoor movies click here.

Update: La Tuna Canyon Road Improvements

Over the past several months, I’ve partnered with the LADOT Official to lead a community discussion and planning process to address the decades-long traffic safety concerns on La Tuna Canyon Road. The robust community meetings resulted in a series of improvements which began work this week. City crews worked swiftly to stripe and resurface the roads between Sunland Blvd to Tujunga Canyon Blvd. Additional road improvements include:

Continuous double-yellow lane separation throughout
 High-visibility pavement markers
1.2 lane-miles of buffered bicycle lane
Shared shoulder for bicyclists and equestrians

These measures will help improve safety to prevent serious or fatal collisions and provide predicable and efficient travel for all users on the busy corridor. If you have any questions about this project please contact my Sunland-Tujunga District Office at 818-352-3287. For more info, click here.

Protecting Our City From Cyber Attacks

This week I introduced a motion instructing the City’s Information Technology Agency to report on current strategies to combat cyber attacks. The City needs to consistently evaluate the capacity of its technology and procedures to prevent and respond to cyber attacks. As chair of the City’s Information, Technology, and General Services Committee, I’m dedicated to ensuring our City takes the necessary steps to protect our information. You can read my motion here.

Every year the Sylmar Woman’s Club (SWC) raises funds to provide scholarships for college-bound students in the 7th District. I was happy to attend the annual scholarship luncheon and install the incoming SWC board members. Congratulations to all of the scholarship recipients!
