Here’s a quick recap of what’s happening in the Seventh Council District this week:
Calling on Congress to Rebuild With Us
This week, I had the incredible opportunity to join my colleagues and represent the City of Los Angeles in Washington, DC at the National League of Cities Conference and Access DC. I met with leaders from across the nation to send a clear message to Congress — it’s time to fix our public infrastructure and deliver for local communities.
I also joined a delegation of over 200 business and civic leaders from Los Angeles County to meet with federal lawmakers on issues ranging from homelessness, housing, transportation, and education. I am looking forward to our work together to get the job done.
National Walk Out
Thousands of students from across the nation, including those in Pacoima, sent a loud message to Congress on Wednesday by walking out of class to demand stricter gun laws. I stand in solidarity with our students — we need to put an end to senseless massacres. Change is not a one day event and I am hopeful that our youth will continue to stay engaged and fight this important public safety issue.
Brush Clearing Season is Here
Property owners who live in very high fire hazard severity zones must clear their brush before inspections begin on May 1, 2018. Click here to read the notice from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Year-round compliance must be maintained on all native brush, weeds, grass, trees and hazardous vegetation within 200 feet of any structures/buildings, whether those structures are on the owner’s property or adjoining properties, and within 10 feet of any combustible fence or roadway/driveway used for vehicular travel. Empowering Female Leaders
In honor of Women’s History Month, I sponsored the 2nd Annual Chicas Mom Women’s Empowerment Conference to promote women’s leadership in our neighborhood. By empowering women, we develop more thoughtful and equitable policies that impact our communities. To all the women running for office, serving our country, working hard raising kids, and organizing our neighborhood, I salute you.

Girls Play Los Angeles is a subsidized City program designed to increase physical fitness for young girls between the ages of 6 – 15 through programs ranging from sports to dance classes.
