Celebrating Mother’s Day
There’s nothing more powerful than the strength of a Mother’s love. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there, doing everything possible to give our kids all that they deserve. This weekend, I hope you’ll also take a moment to say thank you to the women in your life who love you in that special way mothers do. Here are a few ways to celebrate Mother’s Day in the 7th District:
- Join me on Sunday, May 13th for a free Mother’s Day concert featuring live music at Pacoima City Hall.
- Have brunch at one of the many eateries in the 7th District (the best pancakes and croissants can be found in the 7th District 😉).
- Enjoy the clear skies on Sunday with a beautiful hike in the Angeles National Forest or at Veteran’s Park Trail.
- Walk along Van Nuys Boulevard to enjoy the public artwork on Mural Mile.
- Pack a picnic and take a stroll through the rose garden in Brand Park.
Neighborhood Council Presidents’ Meeting
This week, I hosted a productive meeting to connect with Presidents of Neighborhood Councils in the 7th Council District. Neighborhood Councils are city-certified local groups made up of people who live, work, own property or have some other connection in the neighborhood. The meeting was a great opportunity to share ideas about how we can collaboratively address the needs of our diverse communities. I look forward to our continued partnership and work to maintain the quality of life in our community.
Celebrating Young Athletes

Last week, my office coordinated a clean up at Stetson Park in Sylmar where homeless individuals have camped for several months. Two sanitation trucks full of trash and debris were removed from the park. My office also brought in Los Angeles Family Housing and the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority to connect the people living there to support services and to begin the process of getting them housed. The Stetson Park area has been marked as a “Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone” and is adjacent to the Oakridge Mobile Home Park, a mobile home community devastated by the 2008 Sayre Fire. In addition to the clean up, we’ve installed six “No Trespassing” signs around Stetson Park. These signs will both inform people of the fire hazard, and make it easier to conduct future clean ups. My CD7 Homelessness Task Force is working proactively to coordinate outreach and direct services to the local homeless population. Celebrating LAPD Cadets

Congratulations to the LAPD Cadet Class 01-2018! I’m proud of these young leaders ready to serve our neighborhoods. A special shoutout to Michael Lopez, a member of my staff and the CD7 Strike Team, who has recently been promoted to Captain for the Foothill Cadets Post 516 — the highest rank earned in a Cadet Class. Thank you to all the cadets for their tremendous service to our city.

Last Sunday, we celebrated Mother’s Day at Pacoima City Hall with live music, dancing, and food. Thank you Banda La Pegadora de Ruben Pelayo for an incredible performance. Also, many thanks to Eduardo Gonzalez of Taquito Y Mas for generously donating food and refreshments for the celebration, and to Pacoima Beautiful for help organizing the event.
